We were invited by Skipton Extended Learning For All (SELFA) to run a ‘Film The News’ workshop this summer. It’s one of our more popular summer school activities with many children in the Leeds area taking part in the past. This one was delivered a little closer to home. In fact our Little Boss went back to her secondary school in Skipton to deliver it. Qu images of nostalgia!
SELFA aim to provide a range of activities for vulnerable, disadvantaged and disabled children who live in the Skipton and Craven district of North Yorkshire. InspirEd worked with a small group of children to produce news reports about fictional stories they’d made up on the day. It’s quite an intense workshop as we only have 4hrs to go from script to screen. Working to a deadline keeps the children focused on the outcome which is a screening for friends and family. The project gives the participants a basic knowledge of filmmaking with some journalism techniques thrown in for good measure. Our main aim however is to improve the children’s confidence and encourage creative thinking.
Here are some photos from the day.
We’re working again with SELFA this summer making animations. Watch this space for photos and videos….
